A Night in Tokyo is a the Japanese Club’s largest signature event. Every fall, students and guests are given the opportunity to experience Japan in the form of a cultural banquet. Attendees are treated to authentic Japanese performances along with a unique dining experience. In the past years, the event has featured taiko drummers, koto players, traditional and pop dances, martial arts, and much more. One of the highlights of the event is a colorful fashion show showcasing the rich and unique styles of Japan, ranging from traditional kimono to sweet lolita to rebellious visual kei. Other showcases include a vintage kimono display, an ikebana exhibit, and a bonsai tree exhibit. By providing a personal experience of these cultural showcases, we hope to foster a more authentic understanding of a side of Japan that is foreign to so many in the United States.
Save the date! This year’s fourth production of A Night in Tokyo will be held on Sunday, October 19th, 2014 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM EST at the University of South Florida’s Marshall Student Center Ballroom.
